Bogota Background
Bogotá is both the largest city in Colombia and the Colombian Capital. Bogota's official name is Bogotá, D.C. where the D.C. stands for "Distrito Capital" which translates into "Capital District". Bogota is a thriving metropolis rivaling New York and Paris in fashion and cultural activities. One surprising fact about Bogotá's is that it is the third-highest major city in the world, after La Paz Bolivia and Quito Ecuador. Bogota is situated a mile and a half above sea level so the weather is mild to cool in the evenings. To pack correctly, check the local weather before visiting!
And while Bogota is a big city, your hotel is located within walking distance or short taxi ride to the 3 most interesting and popular areas of the city.
Since Bogota draws in professionals from across Colombia, the majority of the city's population is a mix of the Indigenous population and the more recent Spanish settlers. The Women of Bogota are referred to as Cochana's, and are typically more professional, educated and worldly then the women in some of the smaller cities.
