Bucaramanga Background

In addition to its official name, Bucaramanga, also known as the "Ciudad de los Parques" ("The City of the Parks") and "Ciudad Bonita" ("Pretty City"). This lovely town is located on a plateau in the Colombian Andes and is cooler then the Caribbean cities of Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta, but warmer then Medellin, Bogota and Manazales.

San Gil, The Extreme Sport Capital of Colombia

Outside of Bucaramanga is San Gil, which is known as Colombia's Extreme Sport Capital. San Gil offers river rafting on 3 different rivers, multiple parasailing locations, rappelling, hydroplaning, caving, bungee jumping, canoeing, parascending, hiking and horse riding (just to name a few of the activities available to you!).

For those looking to enjoy scenic beauty without getting wet, there is the Parque El Gallineral at the rivers edge in San Gil. With towering Ceiba trees straddling the river and dripping with Spanish moss the scene is quite breathtaking. A stroll around the well-tended gardens might be just the anecdote to the exertions of other days.
